Carbon Credits FAQs

What is biochar?

Biochar is a stable, carbon-rich material, such as agricultural residues, forestry by-products, or other biomass, in a low-oxygen environment. It’s characterized by its porous structure, which enhances its ability to retain water and nutrients.

Biochar is generated through processes called pyrolysis and gasification, which involve the thermal decomposition of organic material in the absence of oxygen.

The CUGR (Carbon United Gasification Reactor) is an innovative mobile gasification reactor that is compact in size, but capable of processing a high volume of biomass in a remarkably short period of time.

Our partners, remove diseased, dead or dying trees, either standing or fallen from the forest before they have a chance to fully decay, or worse, burn. By converting the biomass of these trees into biochar, it stops the CO 2 release and keeps it sequestered for hundreds of years. Carbon United converts that effort into earnings.

Some of the main uses for this biochar include soil amendments and green cement.

Every ton of CO2 that Carbon United prevents from releasing back into the atmosphere generates carbon credit, which organizations can then purchase to offset their carbon footprint.
